Emmerdale Not So Live but Still Organized – May 29, 2018

Welcome back to Emmerdale Live and Organized! In case you haven’t been here before here is what happens. I watch the episode and write down my thoughts as it comes to me in an organized fashion. It’s like a live look inside my brain while watching Emmerdale. Not as crazy as it sounds. Unless you want it to be. *wink*

Let’s crack on!

So, there won’t be the typical sections since this was all about Charity today.

The Past, the Present and What is to Come

I already had a good idea that the baby was alive.  Couldn’t make it that easy now. If you go onto the Emmerdale social media channels you will get to meet this new Dingle and I find him interesting. One, he is Charity’s ticket to getting Bails behind bars for what he did to her and other young girls. Depends if she wants to use the child she thought was dead to do that. Two, we have a new Charity kid. Maybe he can replace a certain someone that I cannot stand (her name might rhyme with Kebbie).  With some spoilers swirling around I can see this new kid making a big splash on the scene while others fall back a bit.

I know some are annoyed that there is ANOTHER Dingle coming onto the show but yeah….I can’t spin this one.  I think there is a problem on the show with the size of our families.  The Dingles just take over everything.  That’s why they keep sleeping with each other!  The Sugdens are small now. The Barton’s are….we just have Pete now (we could argue Moses but he seems to be part of the Dingle crew like Jack and Sarah even though I’d love them to find their Sugden sides).  The Thomas’s are small. The Hopes. The Kings. The Tates (coughs). These families are so small.  It’s time to start building outside the Dingles.  Even the show’s family canvas.

I got off track, let’s talk about something great. That greatness? Emma Atkins. I think I find Charity compelling because I feel everything with her.  There are times I want to throw her out the door, times I laugh with her, times I cry and times I want to give her a big hug.  She has invoked so much out of me since I found the show.  That is down to the acting skills of Emma.  She is great in this role and you can tell she has had a long time to spend with this character. She knows her and how to play those small ‘unwritten’ moments.  I saw a lot of that in today’s episode.  Can we talk about the actress that played Teen Charity? She looked like a mix of Belle, Charity and a little bit of Debbie. Amazing casting. Also, that actress had to do a lot without speaking. I was with her the whole time too. Great acting from both.

I liked how they used 90s dance Europop music to bring Charity back to that time.  Can you believe the 90s are considered ancient now? NO, YOU ARE OLD NOT ME! I liked how they used the hospital to flashback. It was smooth and well done. Same with the rear-view mirror always showing Charity’s past is always there and won’t go anywhere unless she confronts it head-on. Editing and directing were strong.  The writing was strong (it was Maxine…she knows how to do the big stuff). The coloring was great and Charity confessing to what happened in a hospital church? I liked that.

Alright, since I covered a lot of what I liked.  Should I cover what bugs me? Ok.  Vanessa and Harriet pushing Charity and doing things behind her back is not cool. At all. I’ve seen statements that Vanity is beloved except for a few people but…EH….just because your friends enjoy Vanity doesn’t mean EVERYONE enjoys them. I’m tolerating them at this point. I will say that I appreciate how the show let Robert handle this type of situation.  He did a much better job with Aaron than Vanessa is doing with Charity.  I would love a scene where Robert sits Vanessa down and tells her to cool it but it’s not going to happen (that is what fanfiction is for).  Vanessa pushing Charity this whole time just screams to me that their already fragile foundation is cracking, and it won’t be long till they fall apart. If not…its shallow at best and their relationship will need a lot of rewriting and soul searching for it to work. I think Vanessa was good for listening to Charity once she started talking but how they got there wasn’t cool.

I saw a lot of criticism that the show is doing too many “big issue” episodes.  I think its spaced out nicely and I don’t think it was a “big issue” episode like the Cain and Faith flashback.  I think they provided us with some background. Some emotion.  Up to this point, we just have words in the present. We needed the past to fully understand the present and then the future.  The baby thing wasn’t shocking because it was spoiled MONTHS ago in the magazines. I’m excited to see some new blood on the show. I just think it’s just cool with the kids (unlike me…old folk) to nitpick because things are very slow right now.  I might write about this since I nitpick when I’m bored with the show or upset about some other aspect and I think its time to look closer into that.

I think it was a solid episode and I’m happy I got to see it. Everyone did a great job and we know how a better look at the past and how much the Dingles let their own down…don’t they? Dingle Code indeed. *gives a knowing look*

‘It’s Just Speculation!’

Oh yay. People creating fake spoilers are back. FUN. NOT. It’s not fun. Knock the crap off. Leave the impressionable people alone. It’s not cool at all. In fact… it’s a bit sad.

Let’s all be kind to one another. Respect each other’s opinions. Enjoy the ride Emmerdale has us on.
