Welcome back to Emmerdale Live and Organized! In case you haven’t been here before here is what happens. I watch the episode and write down my thoughts as it comes to me in an organized fashion. It’s like a live look inside my brain while watching Emmerdale. Not as crazy as it sounds. Unless you want it to be. *wink*
Let’s crack on!
The Wedding (Laurel/Bob/Brenda) and the Aftermath
I was pleasantly surprised at the subversion the show did with the Bob and Brenda wedding. I, for weeks now, have been talking about the possibility of a crazy wedding where Laurel and Doug or Arthur will go off during the wedding. However, that isn’t what happened at all. IN fact, it was boring. They mention the other wedding that had Molly and Gennie and helicopters. I guess to show how much has changed for Bob and Brenda in the years that followed. I found that interesting.
I loved how it looked like Laurel was going to stop the wedding, but she went to speak her mind to Ashley which I loved. Her feelings were intense and instead of ruining the wedding she decided to talk out her feeling with someone she misses terribly and still loves.
The drama actually happened after the wedding. Brenda picking up that Bob isn’t happy in any of the pictures. Everything during the after party felt labored and weird. I’m going to let you in on something I have been thinking about. This year seems to be the year that women pick what is best for them. GO against the societal norm. Brenda is part of that. She quickly saw that she wasn’t in a good position and she had to make the decision to end it. It hurts, and everything sucks but in the end its for her well-being. If anything, Laurel is in trouble. She is going to get hurt down the line with Bob. I can feel it. More on that below in the bonus theory section.
Laurel and Bob. I mean…it’s a thing. I don’t hate it but I don’t love it. Its just…there. I wonder where they will go next. I have to say, the kids are the ones who have been hurt the most. Arthur is a mess. Cathy and Heath are so confused. I wanted to hug them and tell them it will be ok. Nothing that went down was their fault. You can already tell, they are going to start blaming themselves and sticking to Brenda.
I love all the beats this story is taking. We got to the ‘people don’t believe’ part of the story. The fact its her son has to sting even more. I do love that Moira had her back (we have to stick together) and Cain was shocked that she never told him. Charity has a strong family that can get her through this. I kind of hoped for more Chas and Charity talking things out since I think Chas had a hard life too but I’m good with Chas being on Charity’s side. Having her back. Noah not believing and calling her names is an ingrained reaction. Reminds me of what I think when I hear about a #MeToo moment. My thoughts wonder if the woman is lying and then I’m like…WHAT ARE YOU DOING? Why would I think that? Which is just something I picked up from society. How we treat people who have the bravery to step forward and fight. Charity is slightly weak right now but this woman is a fighter. She has a family that backs her and loves her. She has Vanessa who brings along Tracy. Charity has good on her side. She just has to stay strong.
The Doug and Gerry Show
OH….OOOOOHHHHH. THIS JUST HELPED MY THEORY. Doug and Gerry are great together too. It made me sad to hear that Gerry considers Lachlan a friend even though, through his own admission, Lachlan isn’t good or good to him. Broke my heart. Gerry is…adorable and I can’t say more since I’m adding a bonus theory down below about Gerry and Doug.
TOO MUCH BUTTMUCH TATE
SIGH. DOUBLE SIGH. Here is the thing. Joe Buttmuch Tate hasn’t earned anything that is happening with him right now. Almost dying doesn’t excuse anything or make him be better. The fact he was backing Charity with Noah…wasn’t in character. At all. It was eye rolling mind numbingly stupid. I don’t like it. I refuse to acknowledge it. The Noah, Joe and Debbie thing going on is…odd. Joe and Debbie share a sibling. Again, how Dingle of them.
The Bartons and Holly 2.0
Some think this girl finding Ross is more Nell than Holly, but I see Holly which screws with my head a bit. Its Holly without the strong family. What could have happened to her if Moira wasn’t her mom. Anyway, I guess she and Ross could be a thing down the line? Maybe. Pete being worried makes perfect sense to me. I’d be worried too. Ross is so fragile right now anyone can take advantage of him. I get it. I get his worry. The Barton Brothers are adorable. I will admit that.
The Little Things
- I think Dan is Amelia’s father.
- I love how Jimmy was pumping the balloon as he watched Misty and Rodney “connect”
- I’m starting to like Misty and Rodney. *DUCKS*
- Nicola lied to the doctor to get him there. Honey, so would I! *He is a cutie*
- Bernice is selfish and it’s very much in character. I love it.
BONUS THEORY TIME!
Bonus Theory #1: Doug Dies Not Gerry
This is wishful thinking on my part, but I think Doug dies. Why? They keep advertising about Gerry and Lachlan and will he make it out alive? TOO EASY. I think they will go for the twist on this one. Maybe Doug hears his “son” and tries to save him. Maybe he gets killed in the process of doing that. That would shock the village more than Gerry dying. Doug has been around longer and is connected to Diane who is a Sugden which is big deal especially with the show’s history. Doug passing away would affect Diane, Victoria, Robert, Aaron, Laurel and all the grandkids. Gerry, I love Gerry but it would effect Lachlan, Belle and Liv. Aaron and Robert would be there too but barely. I like Doug these days too but him hanging out with Laurel, Gerry and his grandkids? Its like a goodbye.
BONUS THEORY #2: Sisters are Doing it For Themselves
I’m going to elaborate on what I was saying about Brenda above. I think we are seeing a bunch of female characters deciding what is right for them instead of worrying about the man. For instance, Rhona. Rhona could have easily fallen back in with Paddy but wanted a clean break and a fresh start. That led her to Pete who is single and ready to mingle giving her some uncomplicated loving for a while. Something she needed after the Pierce drama. Brenda decided to pick herself over having a relationship with Bob. Charity finding her voice and speaking out because if she doesn’t someone else might get hurt and she knows those old scars and emotions need to be exercised if she is going to be a better human being (By the way, Charity’s kid is SO ALIVE). Vanessa deciding not to label herself by what society wants and just going for it. Trying to be open and free so she isn’t stuck in a place that might be mentally killing her. These women are deciding what is best for them and have the backing to do so. I love that about Emmerdale and how they try to show growth whenever they can. Sure, they will backslide but for now….growth.
